They have speed, size, and scoring ability. We are close friends off the ice. Gauthier is an important leader on this team and the fact that this camp got the juices flowing again with his linemates is more important than what happened during drills. This year we have seven or eight guys from BC.
Gauthier worked hard over the summer. A lot of it centres around scoring goals and he will be looked at as the main shot on the power play. Just bringing it every single shift.
Shift in and shift out. Bringing it every night. And touching up on goalscoring.
Just anything I can do. Like consistency. A little more time compared to the USA rinks compared to international.

NHL teams, however, reportedly view him as a center at the pro level and Gauthier also stated at the NHL Scouting Combine that Boston College plans to play him as a center when he begins his collegiate career next fall. His draft stock was already rising in the latter part of the season and the fact that NHL teams believe he can play center will only increase it further. He would go on to add another three goals and six assists through six games at the U18 World Championships, earning a silver medal with Team USA. Perhaps more impressive than the goal totals themselves is the variety of ways in which Gauthier was able to find the back of the net throughout the season. He is opportunistic around the net, positioning himself well for rebound chances or backdoor passes.
Plus, his name is Cutter Gauthier. This is not the worst thing in the world, but some fans see someone over six-foot on the ice and expect them to toss their body around. Gauthier projects as a top-6 player with potential to hit it big, but his path towards becoming an elite first-liner is not as clear as some of the guys in the top-5 range. Or at least someone who shoots the puck.

His returning production, combined with the stacked freshman class that Boston College is bringing in next year, is setting BC up to be legitimate contenders for the Hockey East title and possibly more. Despite the departure of Nikita Nesterenko and the likely departure of Trevor Kuntar, this team should still be flaunting a lot of firepower with its 4 incoming freshmen forwards from the USNTDP and the return of Gauthier and possibly Ambrosio alongside the other improving Eagles like Andre Gasseau.

The left winger has 13 goals and 23 points in 17 NCAA games this season and posted two goals and 12 points in seven games at the World Juniors.
I actually met Torts during dev camp two years back. I was super excited and thrilled to meet him and obviously being a big name in hockey and the coaching staff industry, definitely was not against playing for him whatsoever. It was pretty tough to see. People are going to have opinions, people are going to say things. Definitely been a stressful situation the last 48 hours. FlyTogether pic.
It was tough to see what they were saying about him, especially when he felt that some of it was inaccurate. Being on social media at all was difficult as well, with his name plastered across every NHL media network.

I wanted time with the family. So, I figured it was best to stay home. I feel like I could play in the National Hockey League tomorrow, but my decision to come back for another year was lots of time and hours talking to family, talking to coaches and all that stuff for the best decision for me. Naturally, any front office in any organization will want to have time with their top prospect in their building to get a closer look.
Plenty of time, anyway, for Gauthier to impress the Flyers front office enough to earn an entry-level contract at the end of the year.

When it comes to breaking out of the defensive zone, across those three tracked games, Gauthier cleared the zone with possession on 52. Not to mention, his individual zone exit percentage. In other words the percentage in which Gauthier skated the puck out of the defensive zone himself, successfully. That was down at 26. When it came to entering the offensive zone, Gauthier was directly involved in 36 entry attempts. He successfully gained the offensive zone with possession on 58. His individual zone entry percentage is a little bit more promising, at 41. As mentioned earlier, despite the numbers, Gauthier absolutely has the skill set to improve in his effectiveness through the neutral zone. As has already been stated several times, his combination of size, fluid and slippery skating, strong stickhandling, and high end IQ all make him the type of player to greatly improve his transitional stats. Consistency is an issue for him from a shift-to-shift perspective.
In the grand scheme of things, Gauthier has shown strong improvements from last season into this one. He has seen a bigger role killing penalties as the season has worn on. He does a very good job using an active stick to take away dangerous passing lanes to the slot. Gauthier also keeps his head on a swivel, making sure everyone is accounted for and no one is left open in a dangerous area of the ice. Additionally, he keeps his feet in constant motion. That allows him to not give his opponent much room to work with. There are times where he will smother the opposition with a great active stick, and a quickly-closing gap between the opponent and himself. Or it allows him to step closer to the net for a shot attempt. One such example led to a goal against while on the penalty kill.
Gauthier did not pressure the puck carrier along the half wall, and that player stepped into his shot. Gauthier is such a promising player.

I see a potential very good top-six forward whether at center or the wing with a chance to pop and become a true top-of-the-lineup type. On the puck, he uses inside body positioning to get to the middle off the cycle or the rush. Off of it, he finishes his checks and looks to help his line get it back. He can sling it. I do think he shoots a bit too much a lot of his shots miss the net or are taken from low-percentage areas , but you can live with that and that should drop out as he gets even strong over his NHL frame. Moreover, I feel like he is going to succeed at the next level.
Perhaps more impressive than the goal totals themselves is the variety of ways in which Gauthier was able to find the back of the net throughout the season. He is opportunistic around the net, positioning himself well for rebound chances or backdoor passes. He can beat defenders with strong power moves to the net and he is a dangerous one-touch scorer who can pounce on loose pucks in the slot or hammer one-timers from the faceoff circle. Gauthier was always considered a fairly safe pick due to his projectable frame and well-rounded game but he took his offense to another level this year and could end up being selected in the top-10 of the 2022 NHL Draft as a result. Gauthier is a skilled, active player in the offensive zone who has the ability to beat goaltenders with his powerful, accurate shot. Gauthier can make plays off the wall, plays a solid physical game, and is an efficient distributor who utilizes his teammates effectively. His skating is good, not great, but he makes smart reads and maintains strong positioning all over the ice to help drive possession.
