This section will present 10 solo presentations featuring artworks created within the past year or conceived for the fair. Bawwaba will showcase artists from the Global South who think of art as a place of reckoning and healing, confronting social and political issues, engaging in critical dialogue, and creating a sense of community and belonging. Through a variety of mediums, these artists explore art as a catalyst for change, transformation, and healing, and the section will investigate how these processes change across regions. Erizal As merges abstract expressionism with the colours and textures of his environment, conveying emotions that are otherwise impossible to translate into literal words or realistic works. Departing from the rich geological formation of his West Sumatra locale, his work delves into the profound realms of natural experiences and emotional landscapes, creating a raw and evocative visual language. Singapore-based Jane Lee is recognised for her wall-based works that blur the lines between two-dimensional and three-dimensional, with the core of her practice challenging the boundaries of painting. In Art Dubai 2024, she will unveil two new pieces from her most recent series. Indonesia-based Rudi Mantofani adopts a more conceptual approach, often blurring boundaries between painting and sculpture.
Their work challenges perceptions, re-seeing poetry in the mundane, re-examining Western art history icons, and translating complex socio-political themes into intimate aesthetic visions. Through surreal, hyperrealist paintings, Mantofani responds to the deeper, complex meanings behind maps and countries and our understanding of a global world.
With each edition, it brings together renowned galleries, visionary artists, and art enthusiasts from around the world. The 17th edition promises to be no exception, offering a captivating fusion of talent and creativity. Madinat Jumeirah, renowned for its enchanting ambiance, will serve as the backdrop for this extraordinary event. Its unique spaces will be transformed into immersive art experiences, providing visitors with a one-of-a-kind journey through the realm of artistic expression.
Notably, it will include an interactive experience created by Japanese artist Yuri Suzuki, challenging perceptions of natural and artificial forms using tubes and trumpets. The season will also include the 12th edition of the Sikka Art and Design Festival, highlighting visual arts and local and regional artistic innovations from 23 February to 3 March 2024, in Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood, with distinctive artworks by Emirati and resident artists and various entertainment and musical performances, workshops, and talks. Throughout February and March, Al Quoz Creative Zone and Alserkal Avenue will host a series of cultural and creative events, including art exhibitions, discussions, and diverse experiences. From March 4 to 8, the fourth edition of the Dubai Festival for School Theatre, organised by Dubai Culture, will show the creativity of school students.

The fair will feature more than 120 presentations across four sections: Contemporary, Bawwaba, Modern, and Digital. Notably, works in Bawwaba are created in the past year or specially conceived for the fair. The Modern sector is curated by Dr Christianna Bonin and focuses on artists who studied in Soviet metropoles through Cold War exchanges.
Art Dubai Digital explores the intersection of new media art and technology, and is curated by Auronda Scalera and Alfredo Cramerotti. The commissions explore the creation of spaces for contemplation as well as socially-engaged practices, with participating artists such as Mirna Bamieh, Hashel Al Lamki, and Mithu Sen, among others.
