The main target cells of FSH are the ovarian follicles and the Sertoli cells and spermatogenic tissue of the testes. Testosterone is a steroid hormone produced primarily by the Leydig cells of the testes , and in lesser amounts by the theca cells of the ovaries and the adrenal cortex. Testosterone is the primary mammalian androgen and the "original" anabolic steroid. It acts on androgen receptors in responsive tissue throughout the body.

Estradiol is a steroid hormone produced by aromatization of testosterone. Estradiol is the principal human estrogen and acts on estrogen receptors throughout the body. The largest amounts of estradiol are produced by the granulosa cells of the ovaries , but lesser amounts are derived from testicular and adrenal testosterone.

Adrenal androgens are steroids produced by the zona reticulosa of the adrenal cortex in both sexes. The major adrenal androgens are dehydroepiandrosterone , androstenedione which are precursors of testosterone , and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate which is present in large amounts in the blood. Adrenal androgens contribute to the androgenic events of early puberty in females.

IGF1 insulin-like growth factor 1 rises substantially during puberty in response to rising levels of growth hormone and may be the principal mediator of the pubertal growth spurt. Leptin is a protein hormone produced by adipose tissue. Its primary target organ is the hypothalamus.

The leptin level seems to provide the brain a rough indicator of adipose mass for purposes of regulation of appetite and energy metabolism. It also plays a permissive role in female puberty, which usually will not proceed until an adequate body mass has been achieved. Endocrine perspective The endocrine reproductive system becomes functional by the end of the first trimester of fetal life.

The testes and ovaries become briefly inactive around the time of birth but resume hormonal activity until several months after birth, when incompletely understood mechanisms in the brain begin to suppress the activity of the arcuate nucleus. This has been referred to as maturation of the prepubertal "gonadostat", which becomes sensitive to negative feedback by sex steroids. The period of hormonal activity until several months after birth, followed by suppression of activity, may correspond to the period of infant sexuality, followed by a latency stage , which Sigmund Freud described.

Evidence is accumulating that the reproductive system is not totally inactive during the childhood years. The LH pulses are the consequence of pulsatile GnRH secretion by the arcuate nucleus that, in turn, is the result of an oscillator or signal generator in the central nervous system "GnRH pulse generator".

Boyar discovered that the gonadotropin pulses occur only during sleep, but as puberty progresses they can be detected during the day. Some investigators have attributed the onset of puberty to a resonance of oscillators in the brain. Rising levels of adrenal androgens termed adrenarche can usually be detected between 6 and 11 years of age, even before the increasing gonadotropin pulses of hypothalamic puberty.

Adrenal androgens contribute to the development of pubic hair pubarche , adult body odor , and other androgenic changes in both sexes. The primary clinical significance of the distinction between adrenarche and gonadarche is that pubic hair and body odor changes by themselves do not prove that central puberty is underway for an individual child. As the estradiol levels gradually rise and the other autoamplification processes occur, a point of maturation is reached when the feedback sensitivity of the hypothalamic "gonadostat" becomes positive. This attainment of positive feedback is the hallmark of female sexual maturity, as it allows the mid cycle LH surge necessary for ovulation.

Growth hormone levels rise steadily throughout puberty. IGF1 levels rise and then decline as puberty ends.

А так же позвонили в день посещения и уточнили, точно ли мы прибудем вовремя. Я предусмотрительно попросила столик у окна, и не прогадала, когда стемнело на улице, было приятно наблюдать из окошка на набережную в свете фонарей и проезжающих машин. На входе нас встретила хостес,проверила бронь по последним цифрам телефона и проводила за наш стол. Перед посещением я ознакомилась с меню на сайте, поэтому примерно наметила, что мы будем заказывать. Мы пили пиво, его тут 6 видов собственного производства с учетом безалкогольного. Пиво отменное, лично попробовала пшеничное нефильтрованное, ячменное нефильтрованное и ячменное фильтрованное. Всё было приятно и вкусно пить. Кто в нашей компании пил тёмное, тоже оценил вкусовые качества. Чувствовалось, что пиво свежее. И цены на пиво очень приятные. В качестве закуски брали ассорти из колбасок, картофель фри, пивную тарелку и сырные шарики в беконе. Вот сырные шарики в беконе меня покорили, ооочень вкусные, хрустящие. Обслуживание оперативное, вежливое и с грамотными ненавязчивыми советами. Нас обслуживала Катя, большое ей спасибо. Только с чаевыми какая-то ерунда получилась, принесли счет, на нём была ячейка, которую мы отметили, чтобы с нас сняли дополнительно чаевые с карты, так как расчитывались по безналу. Все были навеселе и думали о том, как продолжить вечер. О том, что чаевые с нас не сняли узнали только на следующий день, когда человек, оплачивающий со своей карты увидел снятую сумму. Как-то неловко стало. Ну ничего, мы ещё вернёмся. К слову, вечер можно было продолжить и здесь, после 22. Ближе к этому времени музыка играет громче, людей всё больше и атмосфера становится живой. Посадочных мест много, как мне показалось, все они удобные и просторные.

A further study by this group showed that, in male infants, higher salivary androgen levels predicted a stronger preference for male-typical stimuli at the age of 3—4 months [ 57 ]. In this study cohort, no significant differences between the sexes in salivary testosterone levels EIA , which are extremely sex-distinct during this time period in the serum RIA [ 13 ], were observed. This might have been due to the sampling material that was chosen or the delayed sampling time after the age of 3 months. Based on the same cohort, a correlation of the obtained salivary testosterone values EIA at the age of 3—4. It was observed that there was no influence of salivary testosterone levels during minipuberty on gender-linked play behavior [ 58 ] or eye-contact time [ 59 ] in young children of either sex. This has been supported by a study which used penile growth during the first 3 months as an indirect marker for testosterone concentrations during minipuberty. This study revealed a significant positive correlation between penile growth during the first 3 months and masculine behavior, and a negative correlation with feminine behavior at the age of 3—4 years assessed using the Preschool Activities Inventory [ 61 ]. In studies with Rhesus monkeys, the manipulation of the postnatal testosterone surge significantly affected penile growth and development but did not affect the expression of sex differences in play and sexual behavior [ 62, 63 ].

A study which evaluated the influence of the first in utero endocrine puberty demonstrated a positive correlation of fetal testosterone measured in the amniotic fluid by RIA and the Quantitative Checklist for Autism in Toddlers Q-CHAT [ 64 ]. This raises the question of whether minipuberty the second endocrine puberty possibly influences autism spectrum disorder ASD. Only a few studies have been conducted in this field. Salivary testosterone levels EIA , measured in 84 infants at 3—4. Conflicting data were reported in another study, also based on salivary testosterone measurements EIA in 35 participants at the age of 3—4 months; the results suggested no relationship between testosterone and scores of the Q-CHAT in 18—24 months old children [ 66 ]. A more recent study has reevaluated whether salivary testosterone values EIA obtained at the age of 1—3 months the sample timing corresponding better to the testosterone peak during minipuberty correlated with the Q-CHAT score at the age of 18—30 months in 87 babies. In this study, no correlations of testosterone values and Q-CHAT scores were found in boys or girls [ 67 ]. Most likely, testosterone values during minipuberty are not associated with an increase in autistic traits, but further studies are needed to clarify this issue. The intrauterine effects of testosterone seem to be of more importance for autism development than the postnatal effects [ 64 ]. So far there is no clear evidence of an influence of sex hormone concentrations during minipuberty on sex-typicalbehavior.

More studies are needed to address this question. Conclusion Minipuberty is the second physiological transient activation of the HPG axis occurring in healthy infants at the age of 1—6 months. It plays an important role in the development of the genital organs and fertility in males and seems to influence the development of their body composition. Furthermore, there is evidence suggesting a potential impact of minipuberty on language development in both sexes. Inconsistent data exist concerning the influence of minipuberty on behavior. Many studies are based on salivary or urinary hormone analysis, for which a validation is still missing. It is therefore important to take the sampling material and analytical method into account when evaluating studies concerning minipuberty. Minipuberty is an interesting field of research and further studies will teach us more about this exciting period of human development.
