Weighing in at just 164 pounds as of the combine, he needs to throw on weight and build up his core strength. He put up fantastic numbers with 45 goals and 96 points in 65 games. He uses his size effectively to protect the puck and make plays, although he could put it to use to drive the net more often.

He produces highlight-reel plays night in, night out, with tremendous hands in tight. In his own zone, he is efficient at breaking up play with an active stick. Projected as a second-line centre, Pettersson could end up being one of the best middle-men in the league very soon. His incredible mobility combined with some of the best hands and shot in the league makes him a threat from anywhere on the ice.
Whereas Makar usually creates offence rushing full-speed at defenders, Heiskanen is much more subtle. He scans the zone from the point and makes little feints before finding his target. He is every bit as good a skater as Makar and his zone entry and exit numbers are also elite. Heiskanen is significantly better defensively, playing 25-plus minutes in both of his playoff campaigns. He is incredibly efficient at stunting offense with his body and stick. The Stars will be content having picked Heiskanen third.
He is a terrific playmaker — he ranked 10th in assists-per-60 last season — and his tireless work ethic makes him difficult to play against. He never stops competing, winning pucks and generating chances for his teammates. He has shown some flair this season, too. Passing by Robert Thomas has been so nice this season pic. He has an elusive release and picks corners with ease. He should feast on weak matchups as a second-line center this year.
In his final year of junior, he carried the Guelph Storm to the Memorial Cup with 42 points in 24 playoff games. In the NHL, he has continued to produce at an impressive rate and has shown he can run a powerplay. Some have given up on him, but if he remains healthy he can still reach his potential.
A real shame as I believe he would have excelled playing under current Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault. In the season leading up to the draft Heiskanen excelled playing against grown men for Helsinki as he recorded 11 goals and 23 points in just 30 games in his second season for the club. These numbers were good enough for 24th among all defenseman but Miro had done it having played 30 less games than most of the players on this list who all happened to be 21 years of age and older. He would go on to play in all 82 games while consistently playing well north of 20 minutes per games as a 19 year old. Miro would go on to finish fourth in Calder voting that season behind eventual Calder Memorial winner Elias Petterson, 2019 Stanley Cup winner Jordon Binnington, and 2018 first overall pick Rasmus Dahlin. In 150 career NHL games, Heiskanen as amassed 20 goals and 68 points in 150 regular season games played and will be a stalwart on the Dallas blue line for many years to come.

For all the uncertainty surrounding his current trajectory, this seems like an appropriate spot for Vesalainen. While the team is already rich with young talented defensemen in John Klingberg and Miro Heiskanen , the early second-round selection, Conor Timmins would look good in a Stars uniform. Tippett is making his way in the AHL, and looks like he still certainly has a positive and productive future in the NHL. Original Pick: Shane Bowers In his rookie professional slate with the Colorado Eagles, Shane Bowers is off to a modestly productive pace, although the Avs would likely be a tad happier to have another NHL calibre defenseman in their arsenal. He finally appeared to be up to full speed at the end of the year but remains a massive injury risk moving forward. Rasmussen is a big-bodied kid who is probably a depth option who can help on the PP. He should be in Florida full time at the start of next season. It may take another season or two but he has a very bright future. Foote should be just about ready to help Tampa Bay in a depth role.
Liljegren will be covered shortly. Oettinger looks like the future No. Vaakanainen might be an NHL regular but it will almost certainly be in a depth role. Norris has broken out since leaving the San Jose organization. He was viewed by most as a mid second-rounder. Joseph was viewed as a safe, dependable defender with limited upside on draft day and it would be shocking to see him even reach that level at this point.
