The encoder value in 0x08 always seems to be higher than 0x09. Unclear if this is by design or coincidence. The encoder value in 0x12 seems to be a copy of the value in 0x08 or 0x09 most of the time, but I have occasionally seen other values. I think the encoder value is a target encoder value for one or both legs, and the command byte somehow releases a brake in each leg and commands it to move. Sending 0x87 for a prolonged period of time causes the encoder values in 0x08 and 0x09 to reach the same values. Maybe this is an absolute positioning command?
A single button press should be able to move it to a pre-programmed height. Several IKEA hackers with the same thoughts have reverse engineered the signaling protocol, built replacement hardware, and added more automation to the the control system.
There are a few extras that I skipped on that slightly reduced the price. Another option is an NFC lock for the drawer. I also could see photographers or videographers using the Bekant as a charging station that has 2 levels of battery chargers with proper cable management. I would have loved for the shelves to be solid wood and the bottom wheel removed. But for the price, the Bekant does everything I need. But one day I found out that some day moving the table up and down did not work anymore. Anyways this product was supposed to have 10 years guarantee. Nothing in the manual helped to solve the issue. That did not solve the issue. I tried to do this few times but nothing. I tried disconnecting and re-connecting the cables but it did not help.
