CA: How closely are you working as a team, both together and with the other artists on the run? Did you have any input on the design process? Over the course of the first arc we will learn more and more about the suit. The suit has special properties and serves a specific sort of function within the book. Priest recently returned to comics to write Deathstroke and currently writes Justice League as well. He sat down with ComicBook. Was there any specific appeal that made you want to return for Deathstroke? Christopher Priest: They just offered it to me. I was home minding my own business.
For years I would get a call every 18 months from either Marvel or DC where they would inevitably offer me a character of color, a black character or Latino character. I would politely decline and then pitch them on Potato-Man or Spud-Boy or whatever. So I got a call from DC, and they wanted to talk to me about Cyborg. I gave them the standard stump speech.
I used to be a guy who would write Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Batman. Why am I no longer qualified to write those characters? How did I get typecast from writing Black Panther of all things, when that series was never really about Black Panther. It was about the white guy, about Ross.
It was narrated through his voice, and I thought I wrote a very well-constructed white character. Why are you now pigeonholing me as a guy who can only write black characters? I later found out that Marvel and, to a lesser extent, DC moved into a trend where they were no longer hiring writers—they were casting writers. A writer writes.

Carlo Pagulayan: I think Marie remembers the conversations we had two years ago when we were talking about Convergence and I was asked which characters I find interesting and one of my top characters was Deathstroke. I guess they remembered me and I got assigned to the book. CA: What was it about Deathstroke that attracted you to the character?
Priest: What interested me was two things. Are we getting a sort of Deathstroke: Year One?
So we are there to do the only thing allowed to us — to wait in a state of suspense, a herded passenger. Anyway, the story of Airside, the novel, concerns a young American woman called Jeanette Marchand, a famous Hollywood star. Jeanette flies into London Airport one evening, walks across to the airside part of the terminal and is never seen again. What might have happened to her is the starting point of the story. On sale from 25th May. Every copy sold through a bookshop helps keep the trade healthy. You know it makes sense!
