Golden Knights among winners, Rangers among losers from the 2017 draft weekend

As a 16-year-old rookie, he took on heavy responsibility, playing in all situations. He also scored 60 points in 62 games this past season. Tippett is extremely dangerous off the rush.
He has excellent speed and acceleration. His ability to change speeds allows him to take defenders wide and drive to the front of the net, where he has the soft hands to finish in tight. If defenders back off to respect his speed, he can use his excellent wrist shot or snap shot and beat goalies with a quick release.
Tippett could stand to work on his play making skills. He can stand to slow things down and hold on to the puck just a little longer before rushing a play. Tippett had 15 goals and 20 points for Mississauga last season.
A strong performance, seven points in four games, would lead to him being invited to join the US NTDP late in the season. He scored a point per game. He had another impressive tournament, with nine points in seven games.
He is committed to the University of Minnesota in 2017. Mittelstadt has excellent puck handling ability. He can beat defencemen one-on-one with a number of moves, and has the soft hands to stick handle in a phone both.
He combines this with excellent speed, and the ability to make cuts on a dime. Mittlestadt is an excellent play maker who creates passing lanes with his quick puck movement. He also has a good shot.
He put up nine goals and 10 points in just five games for Finland. Tolvanen is a pure sniper who scores goals in a variety of different ways. He reads the play extremely well, and uses a quick first step and excellent accleration to allude defenders and get himself open to fire a shot on goal.
Tolvanen has an outstanding one-timer, with great power and accuracy.

In his own zone, he is efficient at breaking up play with an active stick. Projected as a second-line centre, Pettersson could end up being one of the best middle-men in the league very soon. His incredible mobility combined with some of the best hands and shot in the league makes him a threat from anywhere on the ice. Whereas Makar usually creates offence rushing full-speed at defenders, Heiskanen is much more subtle.
He scans the zone from the point and makes little feints before finding his target. He is every bit as good a skater as Makar and his zone entry and exit numbers are also elite. Heiskanen is significantly better defensively, playing 25-plus minutes in both of his playoff campaigns.
He is incredibly efficient at stunting offense with his body and stick. The Stars will be content having picked Heiskanen third. He is a terrific playmaker — he ranked 10th in assists-per-60 last season — and his tireless work ethic makes him difficult to play against.
He never stops competing, winning pucks and generating chances for his teammates. He has shown some flair this season, too. Passing by Robert Thomas has been so nice this season pic.
He has an elusive release and picks corners with ease. He should feast on weak matchups as a second-line center this year. In his final year of junior, he carried the Guelph Storm to the Memorial Cup with 42 points in 24 playoff games.
In the NHL, he has continued to produce at an impressive rate and has shown he can run a powerplay. Some have given up on him, but if he remains healthy he can still reach his potential. His frame means he can win pick battles and maintain possession, and his quick hands and creativity mean he can create chances.

The Finn owns top-pairing potential and is a safe bet to become an impact NHLer once he matures physically thanks to his hockey IQ, mobility, defensive awareness and offensive instincts. A powerful player, he uses his size to good effect on the cycle, creating a ton of offense from below the hashmarks — he was dominant at the junior level in that area of the ice at the age of 17. He owns a heavy shot and can make plays as well. The only question mark is his skating. His hockey sense and playmaking abilities are high-end. He can finish capably but will look to play provider more often than not. Higher risk, high reward pick. Weighing in at just 164 pounds as of the combine, he needs to throw on weight and build up his core strength. He put up fantastic numbers with 45 goals and 96 points in 65 games.

And though he became an immediate impact forward at the AHL level, he never really dictated play there as much as he should have given his skill set. His game is built for it.
