The 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward led Windsor with 29 goals and 61 points - in just 49 games - and then played a central role in helping the Spitfires win the Memorial Cup, highlighted by a four-assist performance in a win over the top-ranked Erie Otters. Big, highly-skilled, and ultra competitive, Vilardi brings plenty of meat to the plate - but the skating has raised concerns about how impactful an NHLer he can be. The Kingston, Ontario native can play on the wing but showcased at the Top Prospects Game in January that he is very effective playing in the middle. The fifth-ranked prospect is Casey Mittelstadt, the top American-born player.
Mittelstadt ripped apart the high school circuit averaging 2. He fell short though of leading his hometown Eden Prairie to a state championship, falling in the semi-finals. Mittelstadt was questioned about returning for his senior year amid concerns that his development could be stunted. However, he helped allay some of those concerns with impressive stints in the USHL, wrapped around his high school season, recording 30 points in 24 games - for a 1. The Peterborough, Ontario native infuriated with his inconsistent and incomplete defensive work habits but, at the end of the day, may be the best goal-scoring prospect in this draft class. He finished fifth in the OHL with 44 goals and added another 10 goals in 20 playoff games.

He has a good, quick wrist shot and passes the puck well enough, but his lack of foot speed holds him back from being a truly dynamic player. Another player in this class who has struggled with injuries, he missed all of 2018-19 due to a concussion. He played just 40 games in the AHL last year and really blossomed near the end of the season with 11 points in his last 13 games. At six-foot-two, 185-pounds, he could add some weight but has managed without it due to his smooth skating stride and four-way quickness.
He already looks like a powerplay anchor-type, but we could very well not have seen the best of Timmins due to the injury problems. He had a decent rookie season in the NHL, scoring 20 points in 56 games, but struggled to keep up with the increased pace of the league. He is most effective from mid-range, with a lethal wrist shot. He can skate and has good hands, but his small stature may hold him back from being more than a secondary scorer.
He is an all-round rearguard with average offensive ability who carries his six-foot-four, 216-pound frame around very well. He is reliable defensively, able to keep up with quick forwards and break up play with his long reach or lay the body. Should be a useful NHLer.
Batherson was worthy of a first-round draft-pick, and Boston would be as good a team as any to make the pick. Original Pick: Robert Thomas With Thomas being selected 13 picks earlier in our re-draft, the Blues find themselves in a difficult spot in attempting to find any kind of an equivalent. Their closest target might have been the Finnish forward from the Swift Current Broncos in Heponiemi. At the time, however, the team was in the market for improving their team from the back, out. Like some others, Fleury could climb this list even more, but to be safe, 21 is a good spot.
He still may have a future in the NHL but at this time, yet Poehling seems like more of a sure thing, at least for a middle-six role. The actual seventh-overall selection drops sixteen places to the Coyotes — the team whose pick he was actually selected with. Original Pick: Kristian Vesalainen Casey Mittlestadt is yet another example of the premature hype that began to surround the 2017 NHL draft class approximately a year after the draft. With such an uncertain top 5, it seemed as if many people were eager to crown a group of more worthy players. Despite possessing an apparent valiant work-ethic and strong lower-body, his success in both the Finnish Liiga and the KHL have not translated to North America. For all the uncertainty surrounding his current trajectory, this seems like an appropriate spot for Vesalainen. While the team is already rich with young talented defensemen in John Klingberg and Miro Heiskanen , the early second-round selection, Conor Timmins would look good in a Stars uniform.

После возвращения в Россию Печурский зацепил Кубок Гагарина с «Металлургом», отыграл три сезона в «Амуре», вытащил в плей-офф «Ценг Тоу», не справился с этой задачей в усть-каменогорском «Торпедо», а сейчас, как выразился сам вратарь, отвратительно начал чемпионат в Новокузнецке. Как говорил Александр несколько лет назад, его подводит лишний вес, нужно постоянно его сбрасывать, чтобы становится быстрее и резче.
Ничего, если у «Питтсбурга» произойдёт форс-мажор, то они знают, к кому обратиться.
А вот россияне, в резюме которых уже значился определенный североамериканский опыт, были выбраны на этом драфте значительно позже. Получается, если в мае 2015-го отъезд в юниорские лиги Канады сборников Соколова и Жукенова большинство все-таки поддерживало, то сегодня подобное решение выглядит совсем не однозначно, даже в ракурсе дальнейших перспектив в НХЛ.

Хоккейный талант Костина сомнений не вызывает и еще прошлой осенью ему прочили гораздо более высокий номер на драфте, чем получилось в итоге. Причина проста — в декабре 2016-го нападающий получил травму плеча и пропустил из-за этого полгода. В сложившихся обстоятельствах становится очевидным: выбирая Костина «Сент-Луис» достаточно серьезно рискнул, но есть основания полагать, что этот риск все-таки окажется оправданным.
