Some Japanese-spec Grand Wagons came with digital climate control, plaid seat upholstery, a dual-range manual transmission and a Momo black leather steering wheel. Subaru sales had been declining up until that point in North American market. When the front wheels began to experience a loss of grip, the transmission automatically sent available torque to the rear wheels, up to 50-50 split between the front and rear wheels until grip was reestablished at the front wheels, without notifying the driver or occupants that torque was being redirected. When accelerating or driving uphill, the vehicles weight shifts rearward, reducing front wheel traction, causing the transmission to automatically send torque to the rear wheels to compensate. The transmission again compensates by sending torque to the front wheels for better steering control and braking performance. If the automatic is placed in Reverse or "1st" gear, the transmission divides the torque 50-50 to both front and rear wheels.
The automatic transmission also has engine over-rev protection by shifting the transmission to the next available gear once 6500 rpm has been achieved, even if the gear selector is in a low gear position. К 1987 году Subaru отказалась от отключаемого заднего привода и полностью перешла на 4WD. В 1990 году в гамме компании появилось новое имя — Vivio. Чисто городской автомобиль особо малого класса имел двигатель всего лишь 658 куб. На базе этого оголтелого малыша была подготовлена раллийная машина, на которой пилот Колин МакРей с успехом выступал на «Ралли Сафари».
К тому же Subaru дешевле одноклассников. Полтора года назад решил воплотить в жизнь давнюю мечту, а именно купить себе Subaru! Так как авто покупался в качестве единственного, то коробка — автомат, ибо стоять в пробках на механике мне откровенно надоело до этого на Пыжике. Следующим важным критерием был вид кузова — только седан! Вот не хотел я тогда ничего, кроме седана, соответственно начал смотреть Импрезу, Легася и еще я слышал о том, что вроде был на Аутбэках такой кузов. Сразу оговорю, что бюджет тогда у меня был не дороже 400 тырок. От Импрезы отказался довольно быстро, ибо как-то меня не впечатлило обладание машинкой со спортивным характером на автомате. Посмотрел Легасей — тут вроде всё понравилось и я уже было собрался покупать, как вдруг наткнулся на вариант где некто предлагал черный Аут 2000 г. Созвонился, приехал, сел и понял… МОЁ! Вот не знаю как описать это чувство, но сразу понял, что вот это мой автомобиль. Так я и стал обладателем этого довольно-таки редкого автомобиля. Начнем с минусов. Во-первых, мне пришлось покупать оба комплекта резины, сначала зиму, а потом и лето ; во-вторых, отсутствие шумки как таковой, но это косяк в общем-то всех Субарей; ну и, в-третьих, мне жутко не нравится, что логотип очень мелкий впереди, как-то непропорционально смотрится. И, товарищи, я серьезно — это всё, что я могу вычленить по косякам в данном авто, да и то пришлось посидеть, подумать. Теперь к плюсам. Управляемость — выше всяких похвал, едет как по рельсам, проходимость на бездорожье — без нареканий. Поехал на майских праздниках на дачу, передо мной застрял Volvo XC70, я проехал мимо, не напрягаясь и с улыбкой , приятно порадовала цена обслуживания. Пока эксплуатировал, на мою участь выпала замена ГРМ, запугивали меня, что это дорого, но обошлось всё в 14 тырок с учетом работы, ТО в среднем где-то около 5 тырок, перебрать ремкомплекты суппортов — 5 тырок. Естественно делал не у официалов. Но пойдем дальше… очень порадовала обзорность, видно на все 360 вокруг себя. Салон — удобный, для машины 2000 г. В общем, подводя итоги, могу с уверенностью сказать, что автомобилем я доволен и всем рекомендую и не смотрите, что у них сейчас пробег больше 200 000км, им это так… чисто обкатку пройти.
