His offense has slowed down a bit after turning pro in his draft-year-plus-one season but has been playing tough matchups and killing penalties. He played just 40 games in the AHL last year and really blossomed near the end of the season with 11 points in his last 13 games. At six-foot-two, 185-pounds, he could add some weight but has managed without it due to his smooth skating stride and four-way quickness. He already looks like a powerplay anchor-type, but we could very well not have seen the best of Timmins due to the injury problems.
He had a decent rookie season in the NHL, scoring 20 points in 56 games, but struggled to keep up with the increased pace of the league. He is most effective from mid-range, with a lethal wrist shot. He can skate and has good hands, but his small stature may hold him back from being more than a secondary scorer. He is an all-round rearguard with average offensive ability who carries his six-foot-four, 216-pound frame around very well. He is reliable defensively, able to keep up with quick forwards and break up play with his long reach or lay the body. Should be a useful NHLer. He is a little undersized but is an above-average skater and a mobile defender. Offensively, he is efficient, letting the play develop in front of him before finding an outlet.
He has held his own so far in the NHL this season. He does the majority of his work in the offensive zone, beating defenders before dishing it off to a teammate.
They should have no trouble in that category. The Las Vegas Golden Knights must also adhere to a set of rules. The Knights must choose a player from each team for a total of 30 players.
The power center may have spent the majority of the season on the disabled list with lower-body injuries, but a solid showing at the recent scouting combine plus a full offseason of rehab is enough to quell the doubts I had following a season-ending leg injury back in March. However, Patrick being limited to just 33 games in the most important year of his young career justifiably gave detractors a foundation to stand on. Make no mistake — the list of first overall picks who missed half a season from injury is both short and disconcerting.
Nevertheless, a healthy Patrick is next to unstoppable, and his combination of power and skill from the center ice position is unmatched in this specific draft year. Casey Mittelstadt, the skilled Minnesota-raised center who bookended a dominant season with Eden Prairie High by crushing USHL competition to a tune of a league-best 1. Poor upper-body strength results at the recent combine notwithstanding , Mittelstadt is capable of logging massive minutes, shouldering top-line center responsibilities and producing no matter how much attention he gets from opposing coaches. Swiss star Nico Hischier of the Halifax Mooseheads in the Quebec League is both smart and skilled enough to go first overall, as he led all CHL rookies in scoring and carried a thin roster to the postseason. Playing center with a wiry frame is perfectly normal in major junior, but Hischier will need to fill out before competing and succeeding against the bigger pivots in the NHL.
He uses his size effectively to protect the puck and make plays, although he could put it to use to drive the net more often.
He owns a hard, accurate shot, thrives in the slot on the power play and is a strong skater for his size. Does he project more as a 3C at the NHL level or can he be the top-six unicorn center teams often dream about but can never find? He owns a big one-timer on the power play and a hard, accurate wrist shot that can solve goalies from far out. His season was beset by mono and he was also traded part way through in search of more ice time. Originally considered a surefire top three pick early in the season, he could go anywhere from 5-20 in the draft. Skating wise, he has great power in his stride and beats many junior-level players with ease.
Offensively, he mostly stays away from the big load ups from the point, more often than not opting for an efficient approach focused on getting shots through to the net. He tore apart the U18s with six goals and 13 points in seven games and chipped in a couple of points at the World Juniors as a 17-year-old.

The right-shot winger can score from anywhere with his 93 wrist and slap shot accuracy, as well as the 94 slap and wrist shot power. He can push around anyone with 91 strength, 94 body checking, and can fly past the most fleet-footed defenseman with 91 acceleration, 91 speed, and 91 agility. By this point, Cechmanek is a pure puck-mover, boasting very high puck skills ratings but relatively low shooting ratings. His 94 deking, 95 hand-eye, 94 puck control, and 95 passing all make him the centrepiece of an offensive move, as do his 90 acceleration and 89 speed. The left-shot winger is reasonably fast, with 90 acceleration and 89 speed, and has good offensive awareness with a rating of 90.
2017 NHL Draft Rankings – Final List
A late birthday, he is not eligible until the 2017 draft, when he will have just completed his third year in the WHL. Yamamoto has tremendous hands, he is a great stickhandler and can bury goals in tight to the goalie. He also is very quick to loose pucks with great acceleration and a really quick first step. More a play maker than a goal scorer, he uses his quickness and stickhandling to open up passing lanes. Yamamoto can feather passes tape-to-tape to his linemates and has outstanding vision.
He also put up 15 goals and 34 points in 37 games playing in the under 20 SuperElite league. A versatile player, Vesalainen has experience playing both wings. He has excellent size, and uses it to protect the puck along the boards and extend plays in the cycle. Gifted with a large wing-span, Vesalainen takes advantage of it to play keep-away with defenders.
A budding power forward, Vesalainen wins battles along the boards, and is not afraid to fight through checks to get to the front of the net. Vesalainen also has an excellent shot. His skating is surprisingly quick, and his stride long and fluid. He plays a strong two-way game and covers a lot of ground for a big man.
Hague scored 14 goals last season, showing off a powerful slap shot on the power play. He is able to move laterally and walk the line to open up shooting lanes to get his shot through. Hague could stand to improve his passing skills this season though. He makes a decent breakout pass from his own end, but needs to be a bit more patient with the puck at the oppositions blue.
The big man also shows good defensive instincts for a player his age. Vaakanainen has excellent hockey IQ. He reads the play very well in both the offensive and defensive ends of the ice. He chooses to make the smart plays both with and without the puck.
Defensively he has great gap control and positioning. He also can skate the puck out of danger in his own zone, and start the transition game with a good first pass. Offensively he has a hard accurate shot, and the vision to be a play maker from the blue line. He has a great first step, excellent agility, and the edge work necessary to make quick cuts on a dime.
He combines this with the soft hands to control the puck and make plays in tight spaces and at top speed. Morand is deadly in close to the net. He can make a quick deke on a goaltender, fire the puck to the top of the net, or make a quick pass to a teammate. Morand might be small, but he is not afraid to get involved in battles for the puck in the corner, or in front of the net.
However, he helped allay some of those concerns with impressive stints in the USHL, wrapped around his high school season, recording 30 points in 24 games - for a 1. The Peterborough, Ontario native infuriated with his inconsistent and incomplete defensive work habits but, at the end of the day, may be the best goal-scoring prospect in this draft class. He finished fifth in the OHL with 44 goals and added another 10 goals in 20 playoff games. Slick-skating defenceman Cale Makar of the Brooks Bandits is ranked seventh. Makar still has plenty of growing to do in terms of learning how to harness and deploy his exceptional talents. His education will be in good hands for his upcoming freshman season at the University of Massachusetts. Sorting out the rest of the top 10 has been a convoluted journey since the initial rankings were published last fall. Cody Glass of the Portland Winterhawks Cody Glass of the Portland Winterhawks was another big riser, moving up from 24th - in the preliminary ranking - to grab the No. A cerebral two-way pivot with good size and skill, the Winnipeg native led Portland and tied for seventh in WHL scoring during a spectacular breakout season - in which he more than tripled his rookie numbers from 2015-16. However, he was sidelined early by a bout of mononucleosis and struggled to find his game after returning.

He can stand to slow things down and hold on to the puck just a little longer before rushing a play. Tippett had 15 goals and 20 points for Mississauga last season. A strong performance, seven points in four games, would lead to him being invited to join the US NTDP late in the season.
He scored a point per game. He had another impressive tournament, with nine points in seven games. He is committed to the University of Minnesota in 2017.
Mittelstadt has excellent puck handling ability. He can beat defencemen one-on-one with a number of moves, and has the soft hands to stick handle in a phone both. He combines this with excellent speed, and the ability to make cuts on a dime.
Mittlestadt is an excellent play maker who creates passing lanes with his quick puck movement. He also has a good shot. He put up nine goals and 10 points in just five games for Finland.
Tolvanen is a pure sniper who scores goals in a variety of different ways. He reads the play extremely well, and uses a quick first step and excellent accleration to allude defenders and get himself open to fire a shot on goal. Tolvanen has an outstanding one-timer, with great power and accuracy.
He also has a lightning quick release on his wrist shot. Tolvanen has the soft hands to make quick moves and beat defenders with his stick handling ability. He can bury rebounds and has the hand-eye coordination to get deflections in front of the net as well.
He also has plenty of experience playing for the National team at the Ivan Hlinka tournament, the U18, and the U17 levels. Hischier is a playmaker, with outstanding vision and passing ability. He has very good hockey sense, and anticipates his teammates movements in the offensive zone.
Hischier has a very quick first step, excellent acceleration and agility, as well as great edgework. This, along with quick hands, allow him to avoid defenders and make him very elusive when working the puck in the offensive zone. Hischier also has a very high work ethic, he never seems to stop working during a shift.
The answer is Callan Foote. Foote scored eight goals and 36 points in 71 games as a WHL rookie, showing real offensive prowess. Foote is an excellent skater.
He skates well in both directions, and solid pivots and edgework allow him to cover a lot of ice. Its more about battling in the corners and clearing the front of the net than throwing big open-ice hits though.

Original Pick: Elias Pettersson The disappointment in going from one of the best young players on the planet to Nico Hischier would be devastating for Canucks fans. The team was widely expected to be targeting a forward with the pick, however, at the time, Max Comtois, who had been ranked as high as the top-10, has seen his stock drop all the way out of the first round. In hindsight, Comtois was in fact worthy of a first-round pick, however, just falling out of the top-10. Despite being moved out of the desert and onto colder pastures, Suzuki is well on his way to proving his value at the NHL as a rookie with the Canadiens.
