Никакого синдрома второго сезона не случилось - Элиас и сейчас лидер команды, набирает больше балла за матч и ведёт команду к долгожданному плей-офф. Так кто выиграл? Удивительным образом вышло так, что "Кодорадо" и "Ванкувер", потеряв по три позиции на драфте, все ровно оказались в победителях. Можно спорить с тем, кто лучше - Макар или Петтерссон - но прямо сейчас это не имеет смысла. Оба вывели команду на новый уровень, оба франчайзы. Остальное рассудит время. Близок к такому же успеху и "Даллас".
Лотерея подняла команду на пять позиций вверх и подарила защитника-франчайза на долгие годы вперед, при этом финн очень быстро созрел для игры в НХЛ. Выбор под первым номером Нико Хишира не назвать ошибкой. Тем более, что в 2017 году пройти мимо связки Хишир-Патрик было малореальным. Из двоих игроков "дьяволы" выбрали более успешного. Хишир талантлив и будет очень полезен "Нью-Джерси", но игрок не делает той разницы, которую дают Макар, Петтерссон и Хейсканен. А вот "Филадельфия", похоже, из главного победителя лотереи превратится в главного неудачника первого раунда.
И хотя это событие проходит в гораздо менее помпезной обстановке, зачастую оно представляет не меньший интерес как для экспертов, так и болельщиков, в том числе отечественных. Особенно после предыдущего дня, когда были выбраны сразу четверо россиян. Троих из них выбрали в топ-12, что стало лучшим результатом с 2001 года.

После возвращения в Россию Печурский зацепил Кубок Гагарина с «Металлургом», отыграл три сезона в «Амуре», вытащил в плей-офф «Ценг Тоу», не справился с этой задачей в усть-каменогорском «Торпедо», а сейчас, как выразился сам вратарь, отвратительно начал чемпионат в Новокузнецке. Как говорил Александр несколько лет назад, его подводит лишний вес, нужно постоянно его сбрасывать, чтобы становится быстрее и резче. The biggest gains in the rankins belong to Nick Suzuki and Erik Brannstrom, both jumping up nine spots with Kailer Yamamoto up four. The biggest fallers are Klim Kostin and Isaac Ratcliffe who dropped nine spots each, while Eric Rasmussen dropped six. He is a dynamic offensive player, but an underrated defensive player as well. Arguably the mos dynamic offensive player in the draft.
You rarely see a team end up with the same player they took in a re-draft, so this is a testament to a job well done by the Stars, even if they might have gotten slightly more value out of taking Makar or Pettersson.
His 135 NHL points also lead the draft class though it will soon be surpassed by Pettersson, who is just three shy in 70 fewer games. We knew that about halfway through their respective rookie seasons. There were several picks where my board and the draft result were one or two placements apart but Suzuki is the only selection of the first round in 2017 that lined up exactly with my final ranking at the time. I lean toward Necas today because I think his skill level grades out a little higher, even if his floor is still lower compared to Thomas. Thomas is the more complete player off the puck but Necas will win out long term with slightly more dynamic playmaking talent and a clear edge as a shot creator and puck carrier. Louis My final ranking: No. Thomas is a well-rounded, versatile player who can make things happen in all three zones and does a great job identifying his linemates and getting the puck to them through traffic and into space.
Was I too high on him at the time? I still think he becomes a 60-plus point centre who offers size, high-end spatial awareness and reliability that teams covet in a top-six forward. He may not become a true No. He can be a lot of different things to a line. He can be its scorer and primary shot threat. He can be its go-to puck retrieval option and cycle presence.
Or he can be its primary carrier and distributor. That would still be true even if he had played a full season in 2019-20 and thrived. That will help him have an impact offensively regardless of his linemates. Brannstrom has shown an ability to manufacture offence and create from the back end above and beyond his peers in Sweden and the AHL.
It served to highlight concerns about his size and strength, both defensively and offensively in his ability to play with power in man-on-man battles or create the same havoc with his shot as he does with his ability to hit seams. But the Senators were awful this season and that makes evaluating most of their players — particularly the youngest ones — difficult. In Brannstrom, I see a zone exit and entry machine, a superb passer, enviable poise with the puck and just enough talent with his feet and stick to hold his own defensively. And though he became an immediate impact forward at the AHL level, he never really dictated play there as much as he should have given his skill set.
His game is built for it. When he gets touches, he makes things happen. The Oilers need more players like him in their supporting cast, not less.

Heiskanen is significantly better defensively, playing 25-plus minutes in both of his playoff campaigns. He is incredibly efficient at stunting offense with his body and stick. The Stars will be content having picked Heiskanen third. He is a terrific playmaker — he ranked 10th in assists-per-60 last season — and his tireless work ethic makes him difficult to play against. He never stops competing, winning pucks and generating chances for his teammates. He has shown some flair this season, too. Passing by Robert Thomas has been so nice this season pic. He has an elusive release and picks corners with ease. He should feast on weak matchups as a second-line center this year. In his final year of junior, he carried the Guelph Storm to the Memorial Cup with 42 points in 24 playoff games.
In the NHL, he has continued to produce at an impressive rate and has shown he can run a powerplay. Some have given up on him, but if he remains healthy he can still reach his potential. His frame means he can win pick battles and maintain possession, and his quick hands and creativity mean he can create chances. He is just as good as a setup man or a finisher. If he can round out his game and start to make the simple plays more consistently, he may end up higher on this list. However, the players above him have been more effective thus far. Standing at six-foot-three, 200 pounds, he is most effective below the hash marks where he can dictate play with his size, shot and vision. He also possesses a powerful release, making him a well-rounded threat. This season we will see whether or not Vilardi can fully recover from the injuries that have plagued his career thus far.
