Revit 2024 design & rendering software
It has a livesync plugin to connect with Revit 2024 so that designers can see their projects rendered on the fly. Animation: Walkthrough animations provide a virtual tour of the building, allowing viewers to experience the space from a first-person perspective and get a sense of its scale, layout, and functionality. Revit designers can easily make an animation for their projects, delivering design ideas more effectively to clients. Built-in asset library: Architects and landscape designers using Revit 2024 no longer need to search for models or materials over the Internet.
Revision clouds can now be scheduled which, again, has been a long-standing request from users. The revision schedule can be created in a similar way to any other schedule. However, we now can schedule fields from the Revision, Sheet, View and the Project Information which is useful when issuing sheets. Structural Updates As in the previous release, the focus remains on the workflows and toolsets with the analytical modeling process. Also, we see some strengthening of the reinforcement tools with the addition of bending details and alignment control when using freeform rebar. I will also look at the update from Revit 2023. Loads have been overhauled and the older non hosted loads have been replaced with parametric, intelligent Point, Line and Area loads. These new tools are easier to use and increase accuracy and predictability when creating loads in Revit. Reinforcement Let us begin with the new features and updates with reinforcement. I will begin with the Bending Details which will be especially useful for non-standard rebar shapes. Here in the UK United Kingdom we only tend to detail non-standard shapes and only show these details in the bending schedule, but I know that other countries have a requirement for bending details on all rebar. Bending Details are created as true vector geometry and, as such, will update and change automatically if the host rebar is amended. Bending details can be placed in views by selecting the reinforcement bar and then selecting the Bending Detail command from the context ribbon. The detail can then be placed in a free location, or you can use the Align to Bar command to keep the detail orthogonal. The Bending Detail is driven by standard Revit Type properties and, as such, you can have multiple types that you can use in different situations. The Bending Details also make use of Revit dimension styles so you will need to setup a couple of dimension styles to support the Bending Detail tools. You can also configure the amount of detail that is displayed within the bending detail. For example, you could simply show the segment length dimensions or recover all the dimensions and angles for each segment as well as hooks and linear dimensions. There are also a few options around the unfolding or offsetting of Bending Details. When you have shapes such as links that overlap it could be confusing when showing lengths and angles of the hooks. These 3 configurations are shown in the image below using a standard link. Currently, the Bending Details cannot be tagged but I am sure that Autodesk will add this functionality in future releases. The bending details could also become a solution for certain detailing conventions such as tick and tag in sectional views and the display of bars in plan.
There is even a point cloud file that can be downloaded separately. One slight downside related to this is that the old sample models are no longer included. So, while this new sample model is a great new resource for those learning Revit, I will miss the easy access to the lightweight residential sample model to open quickly for troubleshooting. Of course, the older versions of these files can still be downloaded per this post I wrote on my blog: Templates and Families Not Installed. Figure 6. The new sample project has seven linked models. Figure 7. Platform There are several new features in Revit 2024 that are not discipline specific. User Interface The user interface has a number of changes. Most of the icons have been refreshed in support of a new dark theme option. The project browser is also completely updated and now includes a search option at the top. Figure 8. Most icons have been refreshed and the project browser is completely updated. Dark Theme Revit 2024 now has a more legitimate dark theme feature. This new feature can be set to follow the operating system setting. When first used, the canvas area is also set to a dark theme. The option to adjust the canvas color in dark theme mode. Revit Macro Security Macros are now disabled by default for enhanced security, as shown in the Revit Options dialog below. Any individual or company can change these by deployment or manually if desired. Figure 11. Macros are disabled by default in Revit 2024. Resize All Schedule Rows When a schedule on a sheet is selected, there are now a few options in the Properties Palette to control the row height and rotation on the sheet. Schedule Revision Clouds Revision clouds can now be scheduled. This includes the ability to schedule related information such as the sheet or view name that the cloud is placed on. Figure 13. Open Sheet Directly from View If a view is placed on a sheet, that sheet can now be opened quickly via right-clicking within the view and selecting Open Sheet as shown here. Figure 14. These are spaced out sufficiently so they do not overlap, but they likely require manual adjustment once placed. You will find that some property boxes will still be in Light Theme. Autodesk will likely get to all of these properties boxes in future, but this is certainly a great start. This new visual style is in between Consistent Colors and Realistic. If there is no image applied to the material, the Texture visual style will simply use the RGB color on the graphics tab.
Add Multiple Views and Schedules You have always been able to drag one view from Project Browser to a Sheet, but now Revit has added the ability to do multiple at a time. Once you have all the views selected, you can drag them into the sheet. You can also do this from the View tab by selecting the View icon, which will open a window that will also allow you to select multiple views at a time. But, overall this is a really nice feature and a time saver. Resize All Schedule Rows We always like seeing schedule updates in new Revit releases and this one is a nice one. Revit has added the ability to resize all rows in a schedule.
This is going to be nice to quickly adjust the height of the rows all at once. One thing we did notice when we first turned on the feature for All rows is that it took the height of the smallest row in the schedule. In our case, it looked like nothing happened as the rows with larger heights were still the same size as before. A Color Book is a library or book of premade colors that can be quickly added to your material. The new button has replaced the Pantone button on the Color window, but the nice thing is they added all the Pantone colors as Color Books so you will not lose anything. The one thing we do hope they add soon is a search bar in the Color Books window.
They do have a Color field but we have found that you have to be pretty specific for it to work. The nice thing about Color Books is that there are some available out there to download and use since they have been around for so long.
Schedule revision clouds. Ability to create schedule that contains revision clouds provides a suitable way to track issues in your project. You can use Comments, Mark, and Revision parameters alongside with other groups of parameters that you can select in the upper drop-down menu of the Schedule Properties dialog. Apply revisions to multiple sheets. Improved Scope Boxes. Fixed issue related to display of 2D regions in 3D families. The display of 2D regions created in 3D families is consistent in family and project environment, vector and raster print. Also you can use draw order for the regions.
Improved Dynamo 2. This menu makes it easier to create input nodes; it recommends nodes that you can use as inputs. Hardware acceleration for Dynamo.. It ensures better performance; you can find this option in the Preferences dialog, Visual Settings tab, and it is enabled by default. In-product node documentation. This feature enables you to view node documentation in a side panel directly in Dynamo instead of in an external browser. Improved Dynamo Player. Dynamo Player provides the Issue Viewer to displays warnings. Dynamo Player provides the Graph Dependencies to display missed packages. Improved cloud worksharing Cloud-enabled coordination.
Link a collaboration models and views from Autodesk Docs into your current Revit project for coordination purposes. No need to download the file to the local disc. Change the cloud model cache folder in the local disk. If you work with the cloud models BIM360 you can change the location of the local Revit files. In the Options, go to the Cloud Model tab.

New Features of Revit 2024!

Textures visual style. I find it very helpful to be able to create high quality images of my model without having to spend too much time or resources. This is a simple but handy feature that can save you time and clicks when creating sheets. Drag and drop the selection to a sheet.
Sheets are automatically arranged in a grid layout based on their size. This feature is very useful when working with other teams or consultants using different versions of Revit. This feature eliminates the need to use third-party tools or workarounds to link models from different versions, reducing the risk of data loss or corruption when upgrading models to newer versions.
No more extra right clicks, which means fewer steps. Previously, Revit could only create one EAM that included everything in the model with limited filtering options. Now, you can create multiple EAMs based on different 3D views that include only the elements visible in those views.
Note: Linked models are not part of the view. This gives you more control over what elements are included in your energy analysis and allows you to create EAMs for specific parts of your project, such as additions, renovations, or zones.

Sorting of Project Parameters in Properties Project parameters are now sorted alphanumerically in the instance and type properties dialogs. Family parameters are unchanged from previous behavior. Architectural The architectural discipline has several new features and will make a lot of architects and designers happy. Of course, we will all have wishlist items not found in the update. Be sure to head to the Revit Ideas site and make sure you post or vote for enhancements you want. Here is an example of a much needed enhancement to the Bind Revit Link Revit Idea that would maintain phases — most do not realize that all phase settings are lost when you bind a Revit link until they need to do it! Textures View Style Revit has a new view style called Textures. I was in the beta user group for this one.
It is a cross between shaded and realistic. It shows the appearance asset texture but without global lighting, so the materials are a consistent color on all surfaces and at all angles. Sun settings on ribbon When running a solar study, the sun settings are now presented on the ribbon as shown below. Clicking the sun setting button opens the traditional sun settings dialog with the same settings. Another enhancement includes the ability to select much shorter time increment options. Figure 22.
