The players, used to being treated like mere commodities, felt the only way they could pay him back was to give their best on the ice every night. This division was particularly weak, and in 1976—77 , the Blues won it while finishing five games below. Drafted by the Blues in 1976, Bernie Federko played with the team from 1976 to 1989.
