So there was a point where it became clear that if you separate yourself from the emotional connection to the family and to real life, you have to separate and say, okay, well, this is a movie, these are characters, and the movie just cannot withstand another death at that point in the movie. It became that simple, which is so difficult from a human level, and that was what you grapple with. Also, just the nature of their deaths were very similar — all three brothers who committed suicide. So Chris made it into the film in the sense that the character of Mike is a combination of Mike and Chris in some ways. Yeah, yeah. And Mike was an incredible athlete as well. So there was just a bit more of that with Chris. When you told Kevin that you had to cut Chris from the movie, how did he react? Coming into it as a fan, I love the guy. At that point, I had made the decision about Chris, and there was other stuff, too.
David had a daughter that died. Kerry had a family. So I started talking to Kevin when we were in prep and had an ongoing conversation while we were shooting and told him about the story, told him what we were focusing on, and we had a really good communication. Then, finally, the week before showing him the movie, we did a big family Zoom. I wanted to tell them, okay, these are some of the hardest decisions I made, and this is why. I told him about Chris. The message that he lives by is that no matter what, even on your darkest day, you keep fighting, life is worth it. I think he just hoped the movie would be that. So when I told him about Chris and some of the other cuts, he was just totally supportive.
If he would have disagreed did he have any power to stop it? I just did my best to communicate with them and build the relationship and talk them through everything. When writing this, you had so much to work with, did you ever consider making it a series?
He specializes in antitrust economics, damage analysis, econometrics, microeconomics, and international economics. How do you identify with that? SHAPIRO: Is there a story from your own life you can tell us that, when you were playing a scene in this film, you thought, oh, that kind of corresponds to or parallels with this thing that I experienced? Or something like that.

With the half century break helping him to seal the frame, the heat is off as he takes on the two remaining reds down the left rail. A yellow to its home pocket helps him down towards the pack, but he needs a good recovery with excellent control on the cue ball off the left cushion. A lovely kiss off a red tight to the black while popping away one to right corner frees up the colour. He works hard to whittle down to four reds remaining and a clinical blue that sees him come off three cushions and puts him in prime position to knock in frame ball via the rest to the left corner. Both players work their magic with their safety to somehow avoid leaving that simple red on.
A superb three-ball plant to the right corner bag proves to be the highlight of a disappointingly short run of 10 as he soon overruns the cue ball again and has to retreat to baulk. It enables him to bring the cue ball down to nick in the red above the black and free up the colour on its spot. He uses deep screw to bounce off the right cushion off a red to middle left to land neatly back on the black and despite a cluster of five reds still tight in a mini pack, he coolly takes care of the stray ones to pass the half century mark. A black down to corner right via the rest pretty much secures the frame with Allen needing a couple of snookers. Higgins splits the pack and retreats to baulk knowing he should be good for a 2-1 lead.
He does indeed as a couple of shots later he gets an unfortunate double kiss and leaves that final red on to middle right. It feels like a big miss but Allen turns down the chance to try and cut it in himself and instead plays safe to keep the outcome of this frame in the balance. However, he almost snookers himself with the black tied to the final red and again has to place safe, knocking the red up to baulk. Allen puts him back in and although the Scot hits a red full-on, he leaves it over the yellow pocket. Advantage Allen.

When I talked with Sean and Zac, Sean told me he scripted out long wrestling sequences, then worked with real pro wrestler Chavo Guerrero Jr. I just have to ask. Flying off the top rope was a big thing. A double drop kick, an incredible double drop kick blowing the roof off of this place. You know what? Honestly, I was kind of nervous about it, you know?
SHAPIRO: And you were doing these sequences over and over and over in the course of a day to get, like, multiple shots, multiple angles. And that was after doing a 10- or 15-minute wrestling sequence.
